Where the Chemistry Happens… The Business Segment Manager, Functional Materials, has responsibility for leading a team of Product Regulations Operations (PRO) Specialists, as well as acting as the direct liaison with global EHS, Master Data, business, and service platform counterparts supporting the Functional Materials Operating Divisions. S/he will provide day-to-day operational guidance to the PRO Specialists ensuring product compliance to International, Federal, State and local regulations through a North American shared services platform. Critically, this position is expected to support business process optimization efforts and align EHS product regulatory interfaces to business and supply chain; it will support key efforts on overall IT strategy and global coordination.   • Engage with Business Marketing, Product Management, Supply Chain, Operations/Manufacturing plants, and Customer Service teams.
  • Serve as the driver to expand from a regional to global position by working with the European, Asian, and Central and South American counterparts to coordinate new global processes as they become available.
  • Facilitate new process development to ensure EHS interfaces are clearly identified for business and EHS optimization.
  • Partner with cross-functional business units to manage the BASF product lines in a cost-effective manner.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Chemistry, Toxicology, Sciences, or a related technical discipline; advanced degree is a plus.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in Quality, Supply Chain, and/or Business Optimization.
  • At least 2 years of direct supervision of a team of professionals.
  • Knowledge of regulations impacting products such as TSCA, hazard communications standard (OSHA GHS and WHMIS 2015), as well as knowledge of Chemistry, FIFRA (biocides), and FDA (e.g., cosmetics, food, feed, drugs), and familiarity of other product regulations topics such as DEA, CWC, and HTS.
  • Lean Six Sigma and business process optimization capabilities are desired.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills needed to engage with global and regional business contacts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a cross-functional, multi-Business Unit, virtual, and matrixed business environment.
  • Knowledge of systems, with solid experience and aptitude in various computer tools preferred.
  • ERP/Database skills preferred, particularly with SAP EHS module Global Trade Control System and Global Label Management and Safety Data Sheet creation. Responsibilities will include supporting future IT strategy in EHS from an end -user perspective.
  • Data analysis and use for continuous improvement capabilities. The ability to efficiently pull data from SAP is a plus.
  • Business/Functional process modeling an asset.
  • Advanced and comprehensive knowledge of regulations affecting BASF products, markets, and systems is a plus.
