The Structural Materials & Systems Research division provides innovative solutions for several industries and applications, including aerospace, transportation, structural composites, coatings, and adhesives. Knowledge of chemistry, chemical engineering, and materials science concepts play key roles in exploring novel approaches to create chemistry for our customers. With this position, we are strengthening our team in order to increase efficiency and productivity. Lab Technician, Structural Materials & Systems In this position, the Lab Technician will be reporting to the Sr. Research Scientist. He or she will have an active role in projects involving tasks ranging from prepolymer synthesis to optimizing formulations for various foam and PU-based CASE (Coatings Adhesives Systems, and Elastomers) applications. Our successful candidates will:

  • Be able to manage multiple tasks and projects at one time
  • Be able to quickly learn new testing methods and instrument use
  • Be able to interact with in-house project teams
  • Mechanical aptitude and strong problem solving skills
  • Self-driven with ability to work independently and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree – Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or similar technical field
  • 5 months experience working in a chemical laboratory environment
  • 5 months with Polyurethane formulations for either foams or CASE applications
  • 5 months experience with operating machinery and troubleshooting
  • 1 year experience with standard computer programs such as email, MS Word, MS Power Point, and MS Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in chemistry or related technical discipline
  • 1 year experience with small molecule or polymer synthesis
  • Experience with writing and maintaining a laboratory notebook and creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Understanding of polymer chemistry
  • Prior experience in materials research
