Where the Chemistry Happens… The Director, Analytics North America (NA), is responsible for the management and further development of the Competence Center Analytical Chemistry NA at BASF Corporation sites in Wyandotte, MI and Tarrytown, NY, which serve all business and research units that require support and technical expertise in modern analytical chemistry. In this role, you will manage all scientific, operational, and technical activities of the unit as line manager approximately 40 full-time employees. In addition, you will work to further the technical and operational development of BASF NA’s analytical chemistry capabilities in collaboration with the Global Competence Center Analytics, and in partnership with top university and industry partners. You also will be responsible for all operational and strategic development activities, procedures, and processes in the group, including continuous improvement initiatives. Optimization of internal and external processes with respect to “Quality–Turnaround Time–Cost” will be a key duty and responsibility, as well as actively promoting the group’s products and services.   • Lead and support a team of up to 40 employees, including researchers and technicians, in the strategic development of new product and technology innovations.
  • Leverage your knowledge of BASF’s organization and its research project portfolio to understand complex business, technical, and operational landscapes to build meaningful relationships with commercial and technical business partners.
  • Successfully balance resources against shifting priorities through executing research and capital plans within time and resource constraints.
  • Demonstrate your event planning strengths by promoting the use of modern analytical techniques and methods at key technology exchange events with input from BASF technical and science staff.
  • Using your high level of autonomy and decision-making responsibilities, you will influence and negotiate with key internal and external colleagues, as well as manage and resolve challenging situations including, but not limited to, contracts, intellectual property, budgets, and schedules.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

  • Your Ph.D. in Chemistry (preferably in Analytical Chemistry), along with your proven record of leading large, cross-functional laboratory teams, will be leveraged to quickly and effectively address BASF’s research, operational, and customer needs.
  • Using your strong project management skills, you will set up and lead teams in R&D and regulatory-controlled markets and environments.
  • Your communication and interpersonal skills will prove effective in managing external collaborations, including intellectual property rights, licensing, and legal contracts with public and private partners.
