Where the Chemistry Happens…

This position is part of the Biobased Chemicals Team in Tarrytown. The team is an integral part of BASF’s White Biotechnology Research within the global Bioscience Research platform.

The team works closely with other research teams, development teams and business units of BASF, inside and outside the US. In addition, the team maintains and supports numerous collaborations with non-BASF partners, incl. universities and other research organizations.

Associate Scientist (Strain Development) - Tarrytown, NY (1703914)

The Associate Strain Development Scientist will support the execution of metabolic engineering and related biotechnology projects. The successful candidate will assist in the development and analyses of microbial strains for the production of biobased chemicals. The position is a perfect fit for a self-starter who can work well on his own and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Execute microbiology and metabolic engineering tasks, like cloning, transformations, and strain construction.
  • Be a member of a team that will support metabolic engineering and strain development of microbial hosts.
  • Execute microbiology and metabolic engineering tasks, like cloning, transformations, and strain construction.
  • Interface and productively collaborate with members of the biological, chemical and analytical teams.
  • Work in partnership with other teams (fermentation, analytical) to advance projects.
  • Take an active role in designing experiments and testing hypotheses in collaboration with team members.
  • Maintain timely documentation of laboratory work, evaluate data and present scientific results.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • BS/MS in Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, or related discipline.

  • Hands on experience in Molecular Biology and Metabolic Engineering techniques for bacteria and/or yeast.

  • A strong desire to grow as a scientific researcher, learn new techniques and adopt new technologies.

  • Strong wet lab experience desired.

  • Industrial microbial engineering experience desired.
