The Associate Scientist, Advanced Materials Research, will be given responsibility from day one in a challenging work environment with on-the-job training as part of a committed team. The Associate Scientist will join the international R&D team in Shanghai and contribute to BASF’s expertise and innovation power in Asia-Pacific after starting his/her career in a one to two-year assignment as a lab leader at BASF in Germany. Main Tasks:

  • Manage, supervise and steer R&D projects in the field of polyurethane or engineering plastic technology while leading a laboratory team.
  • Bring to market new products and contribute to the overall business success in close collaboration with our international teams from R&D, marketing, sales and production.
  • Develop technical solutions using existing and new technologies as well as other innovation methods.
  • Alongside documenting and presenting results, monitor and evaluate scientific trends to ensure competitiveness.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with BASF standards for all lab team activities.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in chemistry with a primary focus on at least one of the following: polymer chemistry, material science, physical chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer process engineering or chemical engineering.
  • At least one year international research experience.
  • Well acquainted with standard IT applications and excellent written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • A proactive team player, who shows initiative and creativity. A self-starter with an outgoing personality who can seize opportunities and move projects forward.
