Where the Chemistry Happens… Media Lab Technician (1704016) - Raleigh, NC We are currently seeking a versatile team member in the Plant Transformation group in BASF Plant Science to support of various trait and technology projects. The individual will be responsible for the routine and custom preparation of cell and tissue culture media and the maintenance of a clean and highly functioning Media Lab. The individual will also be responsible for participating in weekly plant transformation and mutagenesis experiments and for delivering results to the lead scientist. Additional functions/duties include participation in plant care activities in growth chambers and greenhouse, in which work on some weekends are required. All data will be housed using an in-house database system to record and track data from media preparation, tissue culture experiments, and greenhouse activities.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You… Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree in biological or agricultural science -OR- Associates degree in biological or agricultural science with 3 years of work experience in Bioscience field. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
  • 3 years aseptic skills with experience in performing plant tissue culture techniques following well-developed protocols,
  • 3 years experience in large scale media preparation and familiar with operating autoclaves, mediaclaves, and automatic plate pouring equipment,

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly motivated and a proven team player with the mindset to deliver high quality media and datasets in a timely manner,
  • Flexible and able to change roles seamlessly throughout the day,
  • Working knowledge in chemistry, cell biology and microbiology; broad understanding in effect of media components on plant cells, tissues and/or organs,
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • Computer skills with knowledge of LIMS and/or other data management systems,
  • Demonstrated compliance with Stewardship requirements, and track record in working in a safe and regulatory compliant manner,
  • Ability and willingness to work in the varied climate of a research greenhouse year-round (e.g. heat, humidity, etc.).
  • Experience and knowledge of general plant care and greenhouse operations,
  • Experience in plant transformation of corn and soybean.
