Where the Chemistry Happens… BASF is currently seeking a motivated Associate Chemist to join our Agricultural Solutions business at our Research & Development (R&D) facility in Research Triangle Park (RTP), NC. Associate Chemist (1703479) – RTP, NC As an Associate Chemist, you will be responsible for conducting lab activities for the development, registration and manufacture of new products and formulations for Crop Protection. You will also be responsible for supporting the advancement of new pesticide formulations from idea generation and conception through scale-up and market introduction. Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Demonstrate safety-first mentality and compliance with all applicable BASF guidelines and standards for EHS, including documentation of, and adherence to safe work practices
  • Perform chemical and physical laboratory experiments and tests, and maintain accurate records of results and observations
  • Analyze assigned research problems, and plan and implement methods to develop solutions
  • Utilize existing and implement new technologies within a development program, looking for variations from the norm, and taking action accordingly
  • Conduct and interpret experiments and studies to advance formulation development
  • Provide R&D formulations support for new product launches and life cycle management projects, interfacing with Manufacturing and Operations
  • Liaise with Sales, Marketing, Registration, and field personnel in furnishing technical assistance and trial materials to solve product performance problems
  • Improvise, assemble and maintain lab equipment; maintain inventory of materials for continued lab operations

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

  • BS/BA in a Physical or Life Science discipline (i.e.: Chemistry, Agronomy, Biology or Related) – OR – BS in Chemical Engineering
  • Demonstrated applied Practical Laboratory Skills
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Serious safety focus, attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills, with ability to build working relationships across multiple functions and locations

We Also Look For…

  • 2+ years of practical laboratory experience
  • Fundamental knowledge of chemistry
  • Knowledge of Formulation Science and Application Science
  • Experience with fungicide formulations (formulating and measuring physical properties)
