The Product Steward is responsible for supporting specific business segments strategy within Dispersions & Resins related to regulatory topics. The Product Steward is responsible for interacting with customers and answering specific regulatory questions for the business segments. It is critical that BASF customers receive accurate regulatory compliance information in a timely manner. This individual will support customers, marketing, R&D, sales, manufacturing, and quality management while working cooperatively with other regional colleagues and our global business partners. The Product Steward will have the responsibility of supporting BASF’s Product Stewardship/Responsible Care programs and to manage the product risk along the value chain. This role will sit in Southfield, MI reporting into the Product Stewardship Leader. The incumbent must ensure that systems and processes are in place to meet North America regulatory requirements for the commercial segment teams. This includes providing required training and awareness of regulations. Support of customer regulatory needs is critical for sustainability and growth of our business. The incumbent must ensure that Key Performance Indicators are met to serve our customers appropriately. The incumbent must have the ability to work across the top levels of the segment business to implement initiatives needed to drive continuous improvement and able to communicate our systems capabilities and philosophies to our customers.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Lead and coordinate the Product Stewardship activities in the business segment.
  • Working directly with the customer, Leads the regulatory requests program within the business segment.
  • Lead and advises the Regulatory Specialist on specific customer request related to the business segment for final decision.
  • Lead the planning and development of regulatory business segment strategies for products and markets.
  • Lead Product Stewardship activities in the business segment areas including management support for RCMS activities and government reporting.
  • Lead manufacturing specific regulatory programs within the business segment, i.e., biocides, GHS, FDA, Management of Change programs.
  • Recognizes specific data requirements and standards for regulatory business segment needs and ensures they are captured.
  • Regulatory approver for new product requirements.
  • Responsible for interpreting diverse regulatory issues that impact products and marketing programs.
  • Determines and assesses the impacts of product changes and regulatory requirements on business segment products, markets, and customers and actively manages issue to resolution.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • BS Degree in Chemistry, Biology, or other related technical fields with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in the chemical industry or related business.
  • Working knowledge in Chemical Product Stewardship and/or Product Regulatory areas.
  • Experience in reading and understanding regulatory requirements including knowledge of REACH, TSCA, FIFRA, FDA guidelines and indirect food contact.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate throughout all levels of the organization, translating regulatory/technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability of independent planning and coordination skills and the ability to react and lead in changing environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to work virtually and motivate others.
  • Experience with SAP Business warehouse systems is desired.
