Where the Chemistry Happens…

As the Manager of Quality Process Development and Continuous Improvement, you will report directly to the Pasadena Site Director and sit on the Site Leadership Team. You will be primarily be responsible for continuously improving the quality of the site's products and processes, as well as overseeing the on-site laboratory.

Formula for Success: You Will...

  • Oversee the site Quality Control Laboratory and personnel.
  • Represent Laboratory in Leadership Team Meetings.
  • Monitor product quality and process samples and recommend necessary adjustments to troubleshoot and improve product quality and process control issues or problems.
  • Maintain Laboratory ISO 9001 procedures; participate and/or take the lead for customer and certification site quality audits (Quality Management Representative).
  • Owner/Approver of Laboratory, Site Quality System Manuals; Owner of Document Control Procedures.
  • Facilitate and document site Quality Management Review Meetings.
  • Monitor raw material specifications, SDS, and Certificate of Analysis (C of A) information.
  • As Chemical Hygiene Officer, develop and maintain practices related to chemical safety for operation of QC & Applications Laboratories (Chemical Hygiene Plan).
  • Maintain sample labelling compliant with GHS for hazard communication at the Pasadena Site.
  • Technical Contact for Product Stewardship related oxo alcohols and plasticizers including submitting change requests and generation of new SDS.
  • Oversee synthesis projects related to new products and raw materials supporting plasticizer plant trials.
  • Participate in Plasticizer Technical Exchanges (and Oxo Alcohols upon request).
  • Maintain close contact with quality personnel at other plasticizer plants (Cornwall, ON) and terminals maintaining formal plasticizer and oxo alcohol product specifications, setting up, troubleshooting, and maintaining CoAs in SAP QM.
  • Participate with Non-Conformance Management Coordinator to investigate and resolve customer complaints (NCMs). Investigate regulatory, quality, and other technical related customer issues.
  • Member Business Expert (BEX) team for SAP QM.
  • Member Laboratory Network Community (LNC).
  • Lead continuous improvement team for site, mentor C/I belts, assist with providing C/I training and coordinate with corporate and divisional OpEX resources and the Petrochemicals C/I Manager to ensure site achieves appropriate level of C/I benefits and savings.
  • Participate in Safety Team investigations/reviews as needed.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in research and/or industrial process chemistry; OR Bachelor’s degree (Master’ preferred) of Science in Chemistry and a minimum of 10 years of experience in research/and or industrial process chemistry.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification required.
  • Experience with Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Experience with analytical test methods.
  • Ability to use corrective/preventive action using knowledge of chemistry and applied technologies.
  • Knowledge of organic and organometallic chemistry, as well as homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts.
  • LEAN/Six Sigma Certification (Green Belt minimum, Black Belt preferred), or willingness to achieve certification within first year of employment.
  • A track record of successful completion of LEAN/Six Sigma projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of oxo alcohol and plasticizer process chemistry is a plus
  • Supervisory experience desired.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
