The Analytical Chemist will be responsible for providing support to the Laboratory Services Organization and the Analytical Service Group at the Freeport Site.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Champion site safety policies by:
    • Rigorously following all safety rules.
    • Encouraging coworkers to work safely.
    • Listening to safety concerns and taking appropriate actions.
  • Support EHS Specialists and Area Experts in the safety concept development; provide updates and applications, as necessary.
  • Provide technical and leadership support to Process Development groups and the Daily Execution teams in root cause failure analysis for EHS incidents, PHA, PSSR, and MOC development, conduct reviews to meet process safety and environmental requirements, as necessary.
  • Contribute technical support to operations, maintenance and the businesses in adherence of the production plan and plant trials.
  • Furnish troubleshooting assistance and knowledge transfer to the Process Development groups and the Daily Production Execution teams.
  • Administer analytical and technical support in root cause failure analysis for production and quality incidents.
  • Provide analytical methods development for all production and product development organizations.
  • Oversee the process for bringing new chemicals on site for the area supported by the lab.
  • Manage new chemicals/raw material qualification.
  • Coach and develop existing and new personnel into high-performing teams who abide by the culture and behaviors required by BASF.
  • Identify training needs and leverage the Learning and Development Coordinator to provide the necessary training opportunities.
  • Interface with all Laboratory, Daily Production Execution and Technology Teams.
  • Provide technical Customer Support.
  • Manage and monitor budgeting changes for Lab accounts as necessary.
  • Interact with BASF technical communities and find new ways to:

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of chemical manufacturing and/or laboratory experience in the chemical/petrochemical or a similar manufacturing environment; OR an advanced degree Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of chemical manufacturing and/or laboratory experience in the chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of chemical manufacturing support.
  • Proficiency in a wide variety of analytical techniques.
  • Solid organic and inorganic chemistry knowledge and exposure to polymer chemistry; knowledge of SPC and computer skills.
  • Strong teamwork skills to interface with engineers, chemists, technicians, and analysts to ensure smooth laboratory and plant operations.
  • Good troubleshooting, problem solving, communications, and demonstrated teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of EHS procedures/standards.
  • Familiarity with SAP Cobalt.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.

This position will be filled at the level appropriate to the incumbent’s background and experience.
