Objectives

  • To play a vital role to ensure consistent communication of BASF’s core messages with the key stakeholders, internal and external, and to build trust in BASF
  • To develop and nurture a strong stakeholder network, increase awareness and strengthen the corporate image by defining and executing an effective communication and stakeholder relations programs, built on a firm understanding of stakeholder perceptions, needs & priorities

- The identified stakeholders are employees, key customers and distributors, media, relevant government officials, BIL Board and internal influencers, key associations

  • · To actively partner with HR for internal communication and employee engagement activities

Main Tasks

A. Stakeholder Relations

  • Create, implement and monitor stakeholder engagement plans to strengthen BASF’s positioning and perception among stakeholders
  • Build relationships with identified stakeholders and create a network of influencers and opinion makers to enhance awareness of BASF.
  • Seek and identify high value speaking opportunities/meetings, conferences, and other platforms for the management, in line with our strategic plan and communications strategy
  • Create a spokesperson matrix (who speaks where) and develop the identified BASF spokespeople
  • Develop tools like stakeholder mapping (a database of our engagement with stakeholders, outcome of that engagement and potential actions arising out of it) for identified stakeholders to capture benefits and synergies
  • Continuously scan the horizon and advise on the potential implications of stakeholder needs & priorities
  • Regularly review success of stakeholder engagement and advise teams on the best way to influence particular stakeholders
  • Ensure quality and timeliness of supporting content/material for stakeholder dialogue: e.g. BASF in India report, annual report and external newsletter
  • Work closely with the other expert groups in the Communications and Corporate Affairs departments (in India and globally) to capture synergies of an integrated approach to stakeholder engagement programmes.

B. Media Relations

  • Develop and implement a media relations strategy for BASF in India
  • Knowledge Management – Ensure that the team maintains and updates the knowledge database on BASF in India. (for e.g. BASF India profile, basic Q&A, identify stories and interest angles for various media)
  • Monitor the quality of content for press releases, byline articles and keynote presentations
  • Establish and maintain relations with journalists relevant to BASF - e.g. chemical industry beat, business journalists, industries important to BASF
  • Manage media inquiries, interview preparations, media meets, executive profiling and media training
  • One Voice Policy – Adhere to the BASF protocol of external communications. Close cooperation with regional PR Team
  • Leverage social media to engage targeted audiences across traditional and new media
  • Maintain a keen understanding of industry trends affecting BASF and make appropriate recommendations regarding communication strategy
  • Advise the South Asia communications team on Stakeholder relations, especially media relations

C. Crisis Communications

  • News & Issues Monitoring and Crisis Communications – Ensure top levels of crisis preparedness. Monitor relevant news affecting BASF, regularly update and maintain the crisis communications database, work closely with the Regional PR team, conduct media trainings, in liaison with the Environment, Health & Safety head organise table-top mock drills, support the Country Incidence Management Team (CIMT) during crisis with speedy communication support (for e.g. Immediate standby statement)

C. Employee Communication

  • In collaboration with HR, support in creating platforms and tools to ensure a dialogue between the employees and management
  • Develop and implement an employee communications strategy
  • Support change management initiatives
  • Explore new ideas to maintain a consistent system of employee communication using web-based and social media tools as well as other channels and continue to strengthen already existing tools like BASF Information and Quarterly updates etc.
  • Monitor, research, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of the internal communication channels and activities, making appropriate improvements and recommendations.
  • Ensure that the team maintains and updates the BASF India corporate internet and intranet sites, including design, content and technical functions, to ensure that it is useful for employees, and the content is up-to-date, accurate and consistent with the BASF style guide
  • Responsible for the CMD’s internal blog
  • Employee Engagement - Support HR in implementing the employee engagement strategy
  • Point of contact and advice on internal communication across South Asia

Requirements

  • Proven working experience in internal communication and stakeholder relations especially public relations (minimum 10 yrs)
  • BA/MA degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications or a related discipline
  • Skill Set:

- High level of judgement to advise management

- Ability to see the bigger picture and reach out and create networks that influence BASF positively

- Good planning and organisational skills, creating systems that enhance stakeholder knowledge and interaction

- Excellent interpersonal skills, an ability to think strategically, and excellent oral and written communication skills (incl. editing).

- Experience in acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews

- Solid experience with social media including blogs, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

  • Strong relationships with both local and national dailies, business publications and industry media outlets
  • Proven track record in designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a local and national level.
