Where the Chemistry Happens… Utilities Technician – Wyandotte, Michigan – (1704008) Operate and maintain the site utility and groundwater systems and equipment, including steam boilers, air compressors, deionized water system, groundwater system, and diesel operated fire pumps. Support overall site maintenance and preventive maintenance programs. Serve as operational resource on days, nights and weekends as work flow dictates. Position must advance to be multi-functional and knowledgeable regarding department tasks. Applicant must be willing to work in and be a part of a continuously developing team-oriented atmosphere. Soft skills such as a cooperative spirit and the motivation to assist other team members as work flow dictates are required. A strong safety commitment is necessary to be a part of this team. Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Daily commitment to safety while operating and monitoring facilities support systems (boilers, pneumatic, deionized water, groundwater, out falls, firewater, river-water, sewers, and incoming utilities).
  • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repair on support and process equipment.
  • Perform chemical testing of groundwater probes and Deionized water systems.
  • Complete and maintain logs for systems and equipment.
  • Performs duties in compliance with BASF, state and federal regulations.
  • Document all work completions on appropriate forms.
  • Clean and maintain areas of the facility.
  • Helps to order equipment, supplies, chemicals, parts, and maintains inventories.
  • Monitor progress of outside contractors. Interface with maintenance and engineering personnel.
  • Responds to on-call needs when utility upsets occur.
  • Supports excavation work for site services.
  • Consolidate site scrap metal for recycle.
  • Occasional lifting, bending and twisting of various range and motion requiring physical exertion when handling materials, drums or equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50-60 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk in work environment majority of time.
  • Occasional use of stairs required.
  • Use of PPE to perform hazardous materials duties related to spill response and clean- up activities.
  • Work environment varies between inside building activities and outside environment (ability to withstand various temperatures and weather conditions).
  • Occasional work from heights.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You… Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Valid Drivers License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting boilers, pneumatic, deionized water, groundwater, out falls, firewater, river water, sewers, and incoming utilities
  • Demonstrated experience using SAP
