Where the Chemistry Happens… Utility Technician – Wyandotte, Michigan – (1703748) The BASF Wyandotte Utilities Maintenance Organization is responsible to operate and maintain the site utility systems and equipment, including steam boilers, air compressors, river-water system, R.O. water system, diesel engine driven fire pumps, filtration equipment, and their distribution systems. Support overall site maintenance and preventive maintenance programs on support and process equipment. Utility Technician will be a part of a continuously developing team-oriented atmosphere. Must be a committed safety leader. The Utility Maintenance Technician will work a rotating 12 hour shift including weekends and holidays as scheduled. Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Safely operates and monitors facilities support systems (boilers, chillers, pneumatic, R.O. water, service water, city water, fire water, nitrogen, outfalls, fiber optic, etc. and their distribution systems
  • Perform chemical water analysis testing of boiler systems.
  • Complete and maintain logs for systems and equipment.
  • Performs duties in compliance with BASF, state and federal regulations.
  • Document all work completions on appropriate forms
  • Clean and maintain areas of the facilities, including steam generating plant, all site facilities support buildings.
  • Order equipment, supplies, chemicals, parts, and maintains inventories.
  • Drive the BASF safety processes with contractors and monitor progress. Physical Requirements:
  • Occasional lifting, bending and twisting of various range and motion requiring physical exertion when handling materials, drums or equipment
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk in work environment majority of time
  • Ability to climb stairs and work at heights as required
  • Occasional use of respiratory protection including air purifying, air supplied and self-contained air supplied respirators
  • Use of PPE to perform hazardous materials duties related to spill response and cleanup activities
  • Work environment varies between inside building activities and outside environment (ability to withstand various temperatures and weather conditions)

Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays as required

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You… Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with 5 years of industry experience - OR –

Skilled Trades Certificate with 2 years of industry experience - OR – Associates Degree with 1 year of industry experience

  • 1 year experience in mechanical or electrical maintenance
  • Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Valid MIDL

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience using SAP
  • Boiler’s License recognized in the state of MI
  • 1 year powerhouse experience
  • Aerial Lift and Forklift experience
