Description

The Reliability Engineer role will:

  • Lead efforts associated with the execution and continuous improvement of the site’s Mechanical Integrity program. Manage all program documentation requirements, the development and improvement of procedures, preventive and predictive maintenance practices, and related training. Monitor and communicate performance through monthly KPI’s.
  • Lead efforts to conduct Root Cause Failure Analyses for maintenance-related failures, develop sustainable engineering solutions to eliminate repetitive failures.
  • Review engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.
  • Work with Project Engineering to ensure the reliability and maintainability of new and modified installations.
  • Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/redesign, and make/buy decisions.
  • Handle small Maintenance Projects through to successful completion. This may include scheduling and coordination of both internal and external resources, at values of $250K or higher.
  • Provide technical support to operations, maintenance and technical personnel.
  • Assume the role of Maintenance Supervisor, as required. This involves the supervision, planning and coordination of maintenance activities for a crew of 12 – 15 Union maintenance craftsmen.
  • Facilitate BASF-sponsored safety awareness & training initiatives (confined space entry, lock-out tag-out, hot works, line break as well as other structured safety programs).
  • Troubleshoot quality and process problems in collaboration with production supervisors, production engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, and others to ensure that all aspects of equipment operation and maintenance are managed. Process problems may include dealing with the technical difficulties of corrosive and hazardous chemicals and operating temperatures up to 2400°F.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

  • An undergraduate engineering degree in (mechanical or electrical preferred) and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience (preferably in an industrial environment) is required.
  • Experience in a unionized manufacturing environment is desired.
  • Experience in the use of SAP Maintenance systems and data analysis tools is essential.
  • Experience in preventive, predictive & condition-based maintenance systems & tools is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial mechanical and electrical equipment in a chemical plant or related field is required.
  • The most critical qualities for the successful candidate include: a strong work ethic (the job may require shift work and will require more than 40 hours per week) demonstrated leadership skills, knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance, strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, the ability to analyze performance and provide feedback, a strong desire to learn, the ability to work independently, the skill to coach for performance improvement and a willingness to be coached.
