Essential Job Functions:

  • Comply with all Company policies and procedures, including Company safety rules and regulations, recognizing hazards and taking appropriate corrective action.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Use basic root cause failure methodology to conduct first level equipment failure analysis.
  • Perform preventative maintenance including lubrication and oil sampling.
  • Complete maintenance of mechanical equipment to correct any issues found through the predictive and preventative maintenance program.
  • Perform breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment including disassembly, overhaul, and reassembly of complex equipment and components.
  • Assemble components from supplied instructions or drawings and design or fabricate simple components, assemblies, or machine modifications.
  • Properly use hand tools, fixed and portable power tools, and rigging equipment.
  • Execute repairs using site procedures, vendor maintenance manuals, and trade skills.
  • Document repair work history.
  • Monitor equipment condition and performance.
  • Interface with vendors, as required.
  • Assist in the installation and commissioning of capital projects, when required.
  • Train and coach operations on the proper use of site equipment, including facilitating scheduled classroom style training.
  • Work with the Team to generate cost savings ideas that reduce the Total Cost of Ownership.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of relevant industrial maintenance experience in the manufacturing, chemical, or refining industries.
  • Demonstrated experience working safely and as an environmental steward.
  • Hands-on experience in the troubleshooting and maintenance of the following types of mechanical equipment:
    • Pumps (Centrifugal – Sealed, Mag-Drive, Canned Motor; Progressive Cavity; and Rotary Lobe), Agitators, Conveyor Systems, Packaging Equipment, Drying Equipment, Film Line Equipment, and Filter Presses, Hydraulic Systems, Mechanical Seals
  • Working knowledge of laser shaft alignment equipment.
  • Ability to fabricate and repair screwed metallic piping systems.
  • Ability to read P&ID's, General Arrangement drawings and piping system layouts / isometrics.
  • Experience working in a team environment with different disciplines (electrical, instrument, operations, engineering) as part of the team.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use computers for e-mail, creating and updating procedures, and completing online training.
  • Ability to maintain records and logs as required and complete required maintenance documentation legibly and on time.
  • Experience with performing Preventive Maintenance (PM) and working with PM programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience in the troubleshooting and maintenance of the following types of mechanical equipment:
    • Chillers, Boilers, Steam Distribution Systems, Cooling Towers, Rotary Screw Air Compressors, and DI / RO Water Systems.
  • Knowledge of various oils and greases and of proper lubrication techniques and intervals using best practices.
  • Experience with Predictive Maintenance techniques such as Oil Analysis, Vibration Analysis, and Infrared Testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with precision equipment – Dial Indicators, Calipers, Micrometers, and other measuring equipment
  • Experience in the use of a lathe, mill, and keyway broaching equipment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Mechanics are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, and climbing.
  • Mechanics must be able to wear and work in appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, supplied air, and up to Level A suits.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment, including outdoor facilities, unconditioned areas, and confined spaces.
