Description

BASF started doing business in Japan in 1888. Activities cover four business segments including chemicals, performance products, functional materials & solutions and agricultural solutions. BASF maintains a strong research and development presence in Japan including the Yokohama Innovation Center (engineering plastics) and the Research and Development Laboratory and Application Technology Center for Battery Materials in Amagasaki.

Objectives of the Position

Core Objectives:

  • Develop new business at current / new customers and maintain/expand business of current customer for Specialty Plastics (high performance plastics).
  • Implement the company strategy to achieve the personal sales objectives for assigned product.
  • Support business development and customer management by initially identifying potential customers/applications, provision of updated market intelligence to supervisor/team, coordination with customer services/ logistics personnel where necessary.

  • Acquired projects (total sales volume potential)
  • Commercialized projects (total sales volume)

  • Customer specific developments (product/ application, services) within defined budget

Main Tasks

Own

  • Defines annual budget (Volume, Net Sales, CM1)
  • Contributes to definition and implementation of pricing policy for related products
  • Decides about prices within price band
  • Defines, controls and tracks Account plan
  • Leads all contract negotiations
  • Drives relationship management with customers (all levels, all functions)
  • Establishes internal network within related regional/global team to support development
  • Defines necessary resources for domestic activities
  • Coordinates regional customer team (SCM, technology, others as defined in processes)
  • Provides marketing with customer level intelligence and feedback
  • Effective Non Conformance Management (NCM) by adequate resolution and closure of all NCM’s
  • Plan and implement the career development plan following company guideline (CHOICE)

With Regional Sales Head • Pricing decisions below limit price With Japan Transplant Team (JTT) Lead • Supports transfer of projects at regional/global level With Specialty Marketing team • Acquires new projects • Drives innovation management With Commercial Management, Segment Management and Technical Development • Defines account targets (Volume, Net Sales, CM1) for Operational Plan and SBU strategy

Minimum Education and Qualification Required for the Position

  • BS in Chemical Engineering (Chemistry, Polymers or related fields)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Sales position or Business development or Technical service of Chemical products (preferable polymer sales) in Japanese Market.
  • Basic technical knowledge in Engineering or Scientific discipline (preferable polymers).
  • Effective Business Reporting & presentation
  • Communication effectively in both Japanese and English
  • Handling and customer management (claims, issues, specific requests, etc.)
