The Site Optimization Leader will drive cross-unit collaboration to maximize the benefits to BASF by developing and implementing tools and processes to assess, optimize, and implement the usage of site resources (e.g., intermediates and utilities. A key will be to balance people resources, fixed cost resources, raw material usages, energy usages, and production. The role will support and provide input into potential new plants to the site, as well as potential expansions /debottlenecks of existing plants on the site.   • Understand and leverage existing contracts to BASF's full advantage; provide direction into the development of terms for new contracts.
    • Identify, develop, and collect high-level summaries for all major raw material contracts including utilities.
    • Communicate the key terms and conditions of contracts to stakeholders.
    • Provide early warning when incremental price shifts are occurring.
    • Work with stakeholders to understand key raw material contract drivers and make recommendations for new and contract improvements to SLT and Business Board.
    • Review major material raw material invoices and ensure compliance with major contract terms and conditions.
  • Develop tools/dashboards to identify site optimization needs.
    • Work with the automation group to identify and develop the tools necessary to optimize the site.
    • Develop, maintain, and utilize a computer model that interfaces with DCS, SAP, and similar platforms that simulate the key raw materials and utilities of the Verbund, including business aspects on the plant site.
  • Identify and control site optimization when resources are limited.
    • Utilize tools and inform the site leadership team with a recommendation.
  • Identify potential risks for raw material sourcing and inform site leadership team.
    • Leverage tools and historical information; make recommendations to site leadership team to address these issues.
  • Identify optimization potential in advance to minimize negative impacts of contract obligations and optimize our raw material resources. Maintain and utilize tools.
    • Forecast multi-BU raw materials and site energy needs.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize a macro site production schedule.
    • Interact periodically with BU supply chain personnel.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a technical discipline, preferably Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, with an advanced degree highly desirable.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in plant optimization or in a business role for a manufacturing organization.
  • Strong process engineer knowledge is highly preferred.
  • Experience in negotiating major contracts and providing manufacturing support services such as conducting Technical Process Optimization Workshops. Supply Chain Management/Optimization, such as planning and leading supply chain SOP meetings, is desired.
  • Ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
