Description

BASF started doing business in Japan in 1888. Activities cover four business segments including chemicals, performance products, functional materials & solutions and agricultural solutions. BASF maintains a strong research and development presence in Japan including the Yokohama Innovation Center (engineering plastics) and the Research and Development Laboratory and Application Technology Center for Battery Materials in Amagasaki. Objectives of the Position

Why does this position exist? With what permanent objectives?

1. According to the agreed strategies, policies and practices, develop the composite market and provide necessary technical support with innovative solutions (product, application, process, and technology) based on available capabilities/resources at Asia Composite Center (ACC) & Eng. Plastics Innovation Center (EPIC).
2. Contribute and participate in the market development and planning.
3. Drive innovation implementation and development (product, application, process, technology) at ACC & EPIC.

Concrete typical activities are: -Market Development (Plan, process, strategy, implement) -Technical development in an Advanced methodology -Innovation advanced development (product, process, application, technology) - New Market Development (NMD) related technical support and innovative optimized solutions - Team members technical guidance -Interaction with Regional internal/external counter-partner (e.g. Universities, Institutes, BASF R&D, etc.) -etc. Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

Owns: • Market Development (Plan, process, strategy, implement) • NMD related technical support and innovative optimized solutions (on process, material, application and technology) • Investigate, Identify and establish new advance technologies • Innovation advanced development (product, process, application, technology) •Plan and Implement the launch of new innovation (products, applications, processes, technologies) at key customers • Elaboration of conclusions/report •Understand and comply with required Business Unit standards (such as ISO certification, EHS audits, EHS & RC standards, X-lab check, etc.) •Globally collect and communicate market relevant information (competitors, trends, regulations, innovations, etc.) • Support IP protection (NDA, JDA, MOA, etc.) • Communicate and interact effectively with local / regional / global internal & external contacts (e.g. Universities, Institutes, BASF R&D, etc.) to achieve goals accordingly to country/SBU/Innovation strategy. • Technical and commercial guidance of junior engineers With Sales/Commercial Team: • Target setting and prioritization of activities for related project (customer or R&D) • Support relationships with strategic customers • Support the profitable business growth with available resources at NMD Team. With Local/Regional/Global Technology Team (R&D, TD, AD, TS, etc.): • Regionally contributes to identify, develop and implement advanced innovation (product, application, process, technology) • Regionally Explores, identifies, develops and support new businesses opportunities (new projects, identifies capital needs, new business models, etc. ) Job Requirements (minimum requirement to carry out the work)

Education

• Min Bachelor Degree (Science or Engineering) in Technical Field (Chemical/Materials/Mechanical/Polymer). Preferable Master / PhD degree.

Working Experience

• >6 years in a technical field requiring advanced knowledge
• >3 years in innovation (product or application or process or technology development role)
• >1 years successful project leadership
• Preferable >1 years overseas experience

Technical & Professional Knowledge

• Advanced Material knowledge (composites) on processing, properties, evaluation/analysis and application. (Either or both Glass Fiber and Carbon Fiber composites. Preferable Thermoplastics Composites)
• Project Management capabilities
• Finance/accounting general knowledge
• Fluent in English (Additionally German is preferable)
• Communication effectively
