  • As a member of global project on lightweight composites own the regional responsibility for the development of specific business opportunities in the field of automotive structural composites and prepare strategic pathway forward
  • As market and business developer assess mega trends and analyze long-term strategies of customers from the industry segment Transportation and align the future positioning of BASF on regional basis, at the same time take care of internal global exchange and establish synergies between Regions, contribute to global strategy
  • As project manager succeed running projects and translate the customer needs into new feasibility projects, proactively steer internal alignment between Transportation and NMD
  • As technical contact person for Part Testing draw and implement regional strategy for part testing activities; possessing deep technical knowledge actively support Industry Segments and their Customers in part specific test requests; coordinate the efforts globally

Main Task:

  • Assessment and project management of structural thermoplastic composite in automotive
    • Project management of running projects
    • Identify and propose potential projects for further evaluation
    • In-depth technical analysis of potential structural parts due to application of composites
    • Mapping of TIER 1 and OEM companies in the region AP according to their advance in composite technologies and current relationship to BASF
    • Evaluation of customer motivation, needs and strategic approach towards lightweight in automotive; valuation of potential competitive solutions (e.g. HSS) vs. composite technology
    • Assessment of manufacturing and/or converting companies capable to implement composites in automotive segment (machine makers, TIERS 2, etc.)
    • Leading systematic exchange with the identified customers and supporting them by technology and economic evaluation of projects
    • Screening of potential applications for innovative material combinations, e.g. metal – plastic hybrids and deriving BASF value proposition
  • Evaluation and analysis of new market trends in automotive
    • Car sharing, autonomous driving and connectivity, etc.
    • New power platforms (e.g. EV, HV) vs. new regulations and upcoming technical challenges
    • New materials and new material properties (hybrids, surface appearance, etc.)
    • Changing automotive environment vs. existing business models of BASF
  • Assessment of the needs at technical level and alignment with Transportation strategy
    • Translate the needs into feasibility studies and/or new customer projects
    • Develop understanding towards new manufacturing technologies and value chains
    • Trigger new product development strategies
    • Design new approaches and customize new business models (e.g. system vs. compounds)
    • New manufacturing technologies vs. material suitability
  • Part Testing
    • Investigate & transfer customer part testing requests within internal (globally) and external (regionally) labs related with budget and resources
    • Support representation in part testing related regional & global exchange meetings, and transfer know-how within the BASF group expertise.
    • Support respective Industries in terms of know-how and technical expertise in the field of material characterization and its interpretation
    • Contribute to implementation of exchange platform with regard to part testing
  • Contribution to Innovation Process at BASF (e.g. project pipeline, opportunity finding)


  • Master degree or Ph.D. in engineering
    • Following disciplines are of additional advantage
    • Polymer Engineering
    • Materials Science and/or Engineering
    • Composite Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Automotive Engineering
    • or related fields
  • Several years professional experience in following industry segments: automotive or transportation (e.g. part design, series development, production etc.) or chemical industry related to the above industry segments
  • Sufficient professional experience in application or product or technology development and/or new market or business development for automotive
  • International experience would be of additional benefit (e.g. mid- / long-term abroad stays, like study, Ph.D., professional career, etc.)
  • Technical & Professional Knowledge:
    • Excellent verbal and writing skills in English
    • Deep understanding of typical transportation applications and manufacturing technologies
    • Knowledge on technical requirements, application know-how, design review based on failure mode, etc.
    • Competencies in the field of tech requirements, application know-how, design guidelines
    • Experience in automotive value chain (material supplier, TIERs and OEMs)
    • Proven interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills also in English
    • Open-minded, creative, team player
    • Ability to work in a proactively diverse, inclusive and intercultural organization
    • Able to work independently and set and meet own deadlines without supervision
