Distribution Account Manager – Personal Care (1702948) – Florham Park, NJ We are seeking an Account Manager to join our Care Chemicals organization, supporting the Personal Care Distributors in the United States and Canada. Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Act as the primary interface with our Personal Care Distribution network serving the BASF Corporation in the United States and Canada.
  • Serve as the central point of contact for distributors to develop commercial proposals, provide solutions to competitive issues and customer problems, and interface on credit and payment issues.
  • Be knowledgeable about personal care market trends and customer needs to leverage the whole BASF portfolio with the distribution partners.
  • Evaluate distributor channel activities to ensure compliance with internal policies and guidelines. Function as an advisor on matters of equitable and ethical business practices.
  • Evaluate distributor contract product addendums to ensure they are in line with current practices and initiatives.
  • Quality support – initiate and submit as necessary non-conformance for both technical and service-related complains. Notify distributors of impending business or product changes. Consolidate quality responses from distributors.
  • Establish appropriate distributor training programs and assist in the implementation of the training programs.
  • Drive the process to assess channel needs and select appropriate distributors together with sales management.
  • Provide regular reports including financial performance, highlights/lowlights, potential new/lost business, pricing, and market intelligence.
  • Utilize and manage available resources (e.g., Marketing, Technical, Supply Chain and Product Management) to support growth with distributors.
  • Develop, implement, and execute a strategic account plan to drive growth with distributors.
  • Implement agreed-upon actions to drive above market growth by generating, maintaining, and converting sales pipelines in an effective manner

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Sales, Marketing, or a related field (Science and Technology).
  • In-depth knowledge of the Personal Care market preferred.
  • Distribution Sales experience is a plus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in both customer relationship management and negotiation required.
  • Proven ability to identify business opportunities and develop appropriate strategies and relationships that deliver sales results within a diverse and challenging business climate.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, influencing, and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with key decision-makers at all levels of management, both internally and externally.
  • Must demonstrate a clear understanding of the value chain both upstream and downstream (cost to serve).
  • Capability of successfully influencing others.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Able to travel up to 50% of the time.
