Where the Chemistry Happens… We are currently seeking a Weather Data Science Integration Manager to join our scientific weather modeling, research and development (R&D) team within the Agricultural Solutions (AP) business. The position is located near State College, PA. Weather Data Science Integration Manager (1703796) – Bellefonte, PA ZedX Inc., now part of BASF Group, is a globally-recognized provider of weather, plant, pest, and management models in support of production decisions and food security at all spatial and temporal scales important to agriculture. As a Weather Data Science Integration Manager, you will be responsible for development and operation of core meteorological data acquisition and processing systems.

  • Formula for Success: You Will…
  • Develop and operate core meteorological data acquisition and processing systems, working in UNIX/LINUX environments with open source tools
  • Interface with the company’s advanced weather analytics and agricultural modeling teams, providing quality data and key analysis for model development, calibration and validation drawing on a variety of data sources
  • Determine the appropriate meteorological science and data requirements for developing algorithms that support both real-time and forecast decision making
  • Create internal data delivery systems, including those related to radar, satellite, station, and grid weather datasets utilizing a wide range of weather data formats (binary, ASCII, GRIB, NetCDF, HDF, etc.)
  • Collaborate with systems engineering teams to transition software from development to operations, and provide ongoing high-level technical support as necessary
  • Lead meteorological documentation efforts, utilizing state-of-the-art software documentation standards
  • Lead Data QA/QC efforts for entire weather systems including: ingesting and processing large volumes of weather data from public and private sources, and applying real time quality assurance and quality control tests

  • PhD in Meteorology, Geography, or Related Sciences with 5+ years of relevant experience – OR - MS in Meteorology, Geography or Related Sciences with 10+ years of relevant experience (Applicable Engineering field emphasizing Data Science will also be considered)
  • 3+ years of experience in the management of data for meteorological applications, with a good understanding of deterministic modeling
  • Working knowledge of graphical tools (i.e. Grads, Matplotlib) for displaying meteorological data
  • Familiarity with geospatial data and GIS technology
  • Working knowledge of state-of-the-art software data-base design and management that support science and data requirements for developing algorithms for real-time decision making
  • Experience ingesting and processing large volumes of weather data from public and private sources, and applying quality assurance and quality control tests
