Where the Chemistry Happens… The Laboratory Quality Manager serves as primary contact for the Superabsorbent Polymer Plant Quality Assurance and Quality Control Laboratory. This individual will manage a laboratory team of a Laboratory Supervisor, 2 Laboratory Technicians, and 19 Team Leads and Analysts. S/he is responsible for supporting the superabsorbent production operations and managing the QA/QC Laboratory in accordance with company policies, G-EMH requirements, ISO 9001, Safety Standards, Corporate Quality, and Responsible Care protocols. The successful candidate will supervise, monitor, and direct the quality assurance of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products for the superabsorbent polymer plant.   • Supervise the work of the laboratory operations.
  • Direct the Quality Assurance/Quality Control laboratory for the monitoring of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products for the Freeport SAP Plant, ensuring compliance with standards, data integrity, and timely release of results and goods.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Global Key Account Management Team; Global Quality Team; Global EMH production laboratories; Freeport Site Organizations; EMH – Charlotte.
  • Champion a quality culture in the laboratory organization.
  • Drive continuous improvement in the Superabsorbent Polymer Plant and ensure customer satisfaction through use of the Non-Conformance Management (NCM) system for the superabsorbent polymer products.
  • Maintain the lab budget in a cost-effective manner. Leadership Core Responsibilities:

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering required; advanced degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of direct manufacturing environment or manufacturing support experience.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Working knowledge of SPC (statistical process control).
  • Organic Chemistry proficiency.
  • Process Unit Operations knowledge.
  • Quality Systems (e.g., ISO, FDA) proficiency is a strong qualifier.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with people management experience.
  • Working knowledge of SAP software is desirable.
