Description

BASF started doing business in Japan in 1888. Activities cover four business segments including chemicals, performance products, functional materials & solutions and agricultural solutions. BASF maintains a strong research and development presence in Japan including the Yokohama Innovation Center (engineering plastics) and the Research and Development Laboratory and Application Technology Center for Battery Materials in Amagasaki. Objectives of the Position

  • Responsible for contributing to develop, implement and monitor strategy for regional categories
  • Prepare and execute RfX
  • Contract implementation & monitoring
  • Category Management
  • Lead projects and contributes in projects
  • Execute Supplier Management
  • Execute Risk Management

Main Areas of Responsibilities and Key Activities

(Purchase to Strategy): Responsible for contributing to strategy for Regional Categories:

  • Provide input of iBPs’ needs and market knowledge (e.g. supply market structure and dynamics, strategies of suppliers, pricing structures, opportunities and threats) to Regional Category Manager
  • Support Regional Category Manager on strategy development (e.g. strategic goals, strategic options, implementation plan)
  • Strategy implementation & follow-up: tackle action items, deliver progress report to Regional

(Source to Contract):

  • Prepare and execute RfX within boundaries set by Regional Category Manager(goods / services package, RfX type and approach, iBP requirements, roles for negotiation, list of suppliers, alternatives to negotiated agreement
  • Hand over RfX execution to Shared Service Center (if applicable)
  • Provide input to buying guide
  • Evaluate incoming offers and, if applicable, challenge bonus/malus evaluation of requisitioner
  • Negotiation & contract award: determine optimal negotiation / award alternative, award goods / services package to supplier(s), if RfX result within defined boundaries and targets, otherwise seek approval from Regional Category Manager
  • Contract implementation & monitoring: manage contracts and decide on appropriate actions; inform relevant parties (e.g. Shared Service Center, iBP) about negotiation results; manage supply issues and/or sales allocation/force majeure situations
  • Implement appropriate actions for E2E margin management
  • Escalation point for NCM management (with support from Operational Officer)
  • Collect required documents from supplier(s) for master data processes
  • Approve PO / Contract in SAP

(Others):

  • Functional Responsibility: being led by Regional Category Manager
  • At request of Regional Category Manager, align resource allocation for Local Procurement Representative with Hub Management and provide guidance to Local Procurement Representative in selected cases
  • Provide input to iBPRM Account Manager
  • Execute Supplier Management according to boundaries and action plan defined by Regional Category Manager, manage relationships with key suppliers, evaluate supplier performance, drive supplier innovation
  • Execute Risk Management approach with appropriate actions
  • Reporting of Result / Performance in ProValue

Minimum Education and Qualification required for the Position

  • University (e.g. Master + min. 4 yrs in 2 diff. relevant positions or Bachelor + min 6 yrs in 3 diff. relevant positions)
  • Working experience in BASF, preferably in Procurement
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of supplier, market environment, products and technologies within respective area
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and guidelines
  • Excellent in English
  • Good IT skills (e.g. SAP R/3 Cobalt, SAP Business Warehouse, Strategic Procurement Suite)
