Description

BASF Shared Services Center Kuala Lumpur, was established in 2005. Located in Kuala Lumpur, the shared services center has 620 employees and provides functional services in the areas of Finance, Controlling, Information Services, Human Resources, Environment, Health & Safety, Procurement and Import-Export Order Management Services to BASF companies and affiliates in 16 countries across the Asia Pacific region. BASF has three other shared services centers located in Berlin and Ludwigshafen in Germany and in Montevideo, Uruguay, that cover Europe and the Americas.

Objectives:

• To effectively manage, supervise and support the Management Accounting team in delivery of services to BASF group companies. Ensuring that services are delivered in accordance with established processes and work procedures and in compliance with BASF guidelines and policies, Financial Reporting Compliance requirements and Internal Control requirements and Local Company legal and statutory requirements.
• To ensure that service timelines, quality, effectiveness and efficiency and continuously improved in the Management Accounting service
• To coach and develop the Management Accounting team to meet and exceed service standards expected through structured training and on the job coaching

Job Description:

Functional Tasks (Inclusive but not limited):

• Provide technical, process and systems support to the Management Accounting team members by managing and monitoring the delivery quality in terms of accuracy, completeness and timeliness on a daily basis.
• Manage and review to ensure monthly and year end closing activities are performed timely, accurately and follow BASF guideline for:
  • master data regarding material ledger, inventory valuation, production planning budget, intra-company transfer pricing, cost center accounting, fixed assets and project accounting
  • monthly standard and actual price calculation for all material included in material ledger with correct stock valuation
  • estimation and year-end inventory valuation adjustment
  • revision and year end production planning budget
  • cost centers, cycle allocation and FICO reconciliation analysis
  • analysis with comment on cost variations, non-distributed price differences
  • analysis with comment for Plan & Actual comparison for Fixed and Variable manufacturing cost and capacity utilization
  • fixed assets and project accounting transactions
  • Non Trade Business transactions
• Manage and monitor to ensure month end close steps are executed in accordance with work instructions and month end close checklist
• Perform business analysis and provide advice to customer and controlling units on all matters regarding material ledger, inventory valuation, production planning budget, intra-company transfer pricing, cost center accounting
• Coach and perform trouble shooting to resolve issues related to Management Accounting process by working with relevant stakeholders on the queries and issues
• Act as business partner for BASF's internal customer to suggest and discuss workable solution with customers
• Act as backup for Senior Manager on daily task as and when required, and to perform other duties as and when delegated
• Act as mentor to Senior analysts and Analysts to encourage good practice, team spirit and a quality-orientated approach

Compliance:

• To manage and participate in any compliance audits and respond to audit queries
• To ensure all work documentation and process are updated to meet the Internal Control Framework
• To enforce compliance to BASF guidelines and policies, Financial Reporting Compliance requirements, local regulation and statutory requirements

Others:

• To drive the implementation of continuous improvement initiatives, Internal Control Requirements, Six Sigma, Balance Scorecard and any other ad hoc project roll outs etc.
• To contribute and support team strategic plan and objectives
• To contribute and support Management Accounting Senior manager, Manager, Regional Process Expert, and Subject Matter Expert Lead in the implementation of project initiatives
• To support Global Finance Transformation (GFT) initiatives in Management Accounting team
• To collaborate and support local counterpart team, service management team, regional and country controllers, plant personnel and other Finance service work streams such other tasks as BSSCKL management and changing business environment may require to be performed
• To contribute and support team strategic plan and objectives

Requirements:

Education:

• University degree in finance and accounting or business studies; and/or
• Chartered or Certified Professional Accountant or equivalent

Working Experience:

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in finance and accounting function preferably in Management Accounting, including 3 years’ experience managing an accounting team.
• Experience working in a MNC, shared service center or Malaysian Public listed company will be an advantage.

Technical & Professional Knowledge:

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Management Accounting and other accounting functions.
• Knowledge and understanding of SAP system or other ERP system will be an advantage.
• Knowledge and experience of MS office tools.
• Proficiency in English and other languages as required with good communication skills.
