Emergency Services Techician (1704430) – Geismar, LA

This position is responsible for performing daily tasks as part of a team to ensure safe.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Provide day to day field “hands on” support for incident command, emergency response, fire systems and response, confined space entry activities and safety and health compliance activities for the Geismar and North Geismar facilities as needed through a shared services concept.
  • There are 4 positions will provide 24/7 Incident Command support for the Geismar and North Geismar sites coordinated emergency prevention, preparedness and response programs. They will rotate on the same basis (A/B/C/D shift) to build familiarity and an active working relationship with the site shift supervisors.
  • The 4 positions will implement training and drills relative to emergency preparedness in conjunction with the site EHS Specialist over Geismar site emergency services.
  • Emphasis is on:
    • Serving as off hour and weekend Incident Commander, off hour and weekend leader for the site Fire Brigade (Level 1 Incidents only), off hour and weekend Spill Response and cleanup.
    • Coordination and planning for all site Confined Space Rescue Services and entry plan reviews.
    • Serve as Rescue Team Leader
    • Assure Rescue Team members available/defined for all confined space entries
    • Physical verification of all rescue equipment at confined space
    • Participation in Geismar and North Geismar unit site emergency response drills.
    • Support in maintaining of all response equipment, including:
    • Maintenance and flushing of hydrants
    • Inspection of sprinkler systems
    • Minor maintenance and inventory of fire trucks
    • Refill breathing air bottles
    • Inspection of bunker gear
  • SOC coordination with Site Security Manager
  • Off Hour and Weekend liaison to outside emergency response agencies for Geismar and North Geismar
  • Knowledge and support for site CAN system
  • Responsible for developing effective working relationships with site clusters, employees, and the EHS community regarding units drills and response systems
  • Maintain NIMS 100 and 200 along with HAZWOPER certification
  • Periodic Industrial Hygiene Support services
  • Primary First Responder back-up
  • Safety shower annual inspections

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • A minimum of five years of related emergency services experience (Fire Brigade, Medical, Rescue, etc.).
  • Safety or environmental related degree or work towards the same could reduce experience requirement.

Preferred

  • Related military and or chemical plant experience a plus.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
