Where the Chemistry Happens… The primary function of this position is to manage capital and expense projects that fall under the responsibility of the Wyandotte Engineering Hub. The individual will manage multiple projects and become highly integrated into both the Wyandotte and BASF Canada sites through project and technical assistance request support. Project involvement will occur at various phases of the project execution cycle from Front End Loading through commissioning. Key tasks will include scope development, conceptual design, process design, detailed design, cost estimate preparation, coordination of required project reviews, preparation of approval documentation, coordination of project related procurement activities, construction, and commissioning support.   • Develop project scopes, generate and/or obtains cost estimates, and prepare appropriation funding requests. Ensure that appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required both before and after approval. Utilize applicable value-Based Engineering practices (VBE) to optimize project scope and costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promote a safe working environment for project execution.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with assigned project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and then final documentation and closure.
  • Request and coordinate required process and discipline engineering and design resources, whether from the site or corporate groups or outside engineering vendors, to prepare engineering design deliverables and to procure equipment, fabricated materials, and services.
  • Adhere to current corporate and plant requirements for equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences.
  • Maintain SAP project data entries, monitor project progress through scheduling and other tools, perform project status reporting, and control spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or a similar Engineering or Technical discipline and 7 or more years of combined experience as a Project Engineer, Process Engineer or Project Manager.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the chemical industry where related technical skills were applied with 3 or more years of demonstrated work experience in project execution.
  • Working knowledge of chemical process equipment including rotating equipment, heat transfer, solids handling, storage tanks, and vessels.
  • Very strong customer focus capabilities to closely interact with multiple organizational levels.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, administrative, personal motivation and personal adaptability skills.

Preferred:

  • PMP Certification and Professional Engineer License.
  • Knowledge of the BASF Project Execution Roadmap is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of process measurement and control instruments.
  • Basic understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) desired.
  • Ability to interact and communicate at a high competency level in manufacturing technical discussions.
