The Reliability Engineer is responsible for providing reliability expertise and leadership for the Technical Engineering Services Department. This role assures proper equipment specification, design, installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment, instrumentation, and piping systems according to regulatory requirement, BASF standards, and reliability best practices. S/he will support the efficient and effective utilization of maintenance resources, tools and equipment. Areas of responsibility include supplying technical expertise to maintenance/engineering and operations, facilitating the reliability efforts of the Maintenance Process Improvement (MPI) process, reduction of the maintenance budget through reliability improvements, and assisting in or executing small projects.   • Maintain and improve plant reliability through identifying/correcting bad actors, facilitating criticality assessment, conducting root cause failure analyses, meeting mechanical integrity requirements, and implementing preventive/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Plan routine, extraordinary, and turnaround maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with operations personnel in troubleshooting mechanical problems and implementing technology improvements, provides guidance and training as appropriate to promote proper operation and maintenance of equipment and piping systems.
  • Provide field oversight of outside contractors and suppliers of mechanical maintenance services performing Mechanical Integrity work at the site or in off-site shops.
  • Provide input to preparing the maintenance budget, and control spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, and support continuous improvements to the maintenance work processes to enhance plant availability and reduce the plant repair factor.
  • Provide expertise in the various elements of the maintenance program, including equipment and piping inspections, spare parts strategy and availability, vibration and oil analysis programs, relief device maintenance, equipment obsolescence strategy, and similar activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements for reliability and MI program.
  • Support the Maintenance Supervisor for craftsmen training curriculum development
  • Seek compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promote a safe working environment.
  • Manage small projects as assigned, and be responsible for seeking additional expertise as situations may warrant.
  • Drive equipment standardization and life cycle cost analysis.
  • Participate and contribute on teams or via ad hoc assignments with other Site and NAFTA engineers to review, update, and develop mechanical procedures, guidelines, standards, and practices. Centers of Expertise (CoE’s) and peer working teams are examples.
  • Support TPM initiatives by providing technical input and training to increase operations ownership of equipment reliability.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience is required. Chemical industry experience is strongly preferred.
  • Reliability based maintenance tools and equipment troubleshooting experience is required.
  • Knowledge of rotating and stationary equipment is required.
  • Chemical plant mechanical design experience and operations experience are strongly preferred.
  • Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) equipment, project execution, and construction/repair/ installation techniques is preferred.
  • Familiarity with general industry standards, accounting practices, and procurement policies.
  • Proficient computer skills as well as user knowledge of a computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is preferred.
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication and interpersonal skills, customer focus, entrepreneurial acting/initiative, team leadership/collaboration and coaching skills are desired.
  • PSM Industrial experience, SAP proficiency and Professional acting/initiative, team leadership/collaboration and coaching are also preferred.
  • Travel 5%
