Where the Chemistry Happens… We are seeking a Cost Estimating Engineer to work within our Geismar Site Engineering Department and be responsible for developing cost estimates for capital projects and turnarounds primarily for the Geismar, LA site.   • Support the development of conceptual and detailed cost estimates for capital projects (study grade through appropriation grade).
  • Perform bid analysis for complex service contracts.
  • Systematically gather market intelligence for updating material and labor costs in existing estimating systems.
  • Assist the cost control team by estimating Scope Changes and Field Changes during execution.
  • Work with cost control to gather input on actual project costs to update developed cost databases and systems.
  • Provide cost estimating support to project teams and business partners during value engineering and option analysis.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of cost estimating and project controls tools and processes.
  • Perform studies and analysis.
  • Develop and support contracting strategies for capital projects.
  • Work within a Project Management Office composed of multiple disciplines to support two separate large sites, with a primary focus on the Geismar site.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline with at least 7 years of relevant working experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of direct experience working in Capital Projects in the Chemical/Petrochemical (or similar) industry with an emphasis on cost estimating, project management /engineering, or construction.
  • Strong analytical, technical and communication skills, combined with an ability to work within a team environment. Routine presentations to senior management are frequently required.
  • Working knowledge of SAP maintenance and project systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and possession of strong conflict management skills.
  • Participation in continuing education (engineering disciplines and the construction field), as well as related professional organizations.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
