Where the Chemistry Happens… We are seeking a Cost Control Engineer to work within our Geismar Site Engineering Department and be responsible for providing cost control supporting capital projects and turnarounds primarily for the Geismar, LA site.   • Perform cost control for multiple capital investments of various sizes and complexities, developing project cost forecasts and preparing cost control reports.
  • Actively participate in the overall cost control process, ensuring proper progress tracking and change management systems are in place and effectively functioning in detail engineering and construction. Provide proper variance explanations, and root cause analysis of changes.
  • Develop and improve cost control tools and processes.
  • Exhibit strong analytical skills that allow proper assessments of projects to identify potential issues while supporting development and recommend solutions via communications with and support for Project Management.
  • Perform studies and analysis.
  • Perform bid analysis for complex service contracts.
  • Process and perform audits of invoices.
  • Evaluate field change orders and validate contractor estimates and pricing.
  • Develop and support contracting strategies for capital projects.
  • Work both independently and with a team in carrying out a project’s cost control and forecasting efforts.
  • Work within a Project Management Office composed of multiple disciplines that support two separate large sites with primary focus on the Geismar site.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline with at least 2 years of professional experience.
  • Working knowledge of estimating, engineering, procurement, accounting, and construction practices.
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment.
  • Strong analytical ability, combined with solid focus on quality and detail.
  • Excellent computer and communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Chemical plant experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated strong initiative and a self-starter.
  • Previous experience in project cost control for industrial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of SAP maintenance and project systems.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
