Where the Chemistry Happens…

This is a BASF direct position assigned to the process control systems group, which has responsibilities for support of the control systems (DCS, PLC, SIS, etc.). The main responsibility is to deliver and maintain Control Systems that meet Production’s requirements, perform as necessary to achieve functionality and safety obligations, and maximize system capability. This includes the leadership of the system migration and lifecycle process, maintenance recommendation and oversight of installed base equipment, membership on key control systems related teams, coordination of concepts with Production Technologist (Automation).

Process Control Systems Engineer I (1703863) – Geismar, LA

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Manages and provides expertise on all control systems in a specific area
  • Responsible for oversight of control system critical spare parts.
  • Responsible for lifecycle status, and develop diagnosis concept and periodic health check of installed base control systems with coordination with the Technologist (Automation).
  • Develop and maintain long-term control system migration plans for their assigned plant with the Production Technologist, Specialists and Technicians.
  • Provides expertise as a resource in Advanced Process Control. This provides a resource for any area Model Predictive Control systems.
  • Responsible for tracking Total Cost of Ownership for control systems. This includes, monitoring failures, assisting in initial hardware installations, maintenance contract tracking and communication, optimizing software version upgrades and vendor liaison issues such as quick fixes for system problems.
  • Assigns and keeps record of all I/O points in the area.
  • Works with operations to provide robust and efficient control schemes.
  • Perform advanced control and graphic configuration on systems in an assigned area that is beyond the capabilities of the technicians and specialists.
  • Participate on the Process Control Peer Working Group.
  • Provides technical expertise for plant specific systems and communications protocols used onsite, such as Profibus and Fieldbus for field instrumentation systems, OPC communications systems, wireless communications, etc.
  • Lead and/or coordinate root cause failure analysis on significant failures. Implement Corrective Actions for control system issues.
  • Maintains the master plan on assigned areas Control Systems (DCS, PLC and SIS). Ensures all systems are in compliance with corporate standards.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering required with 0 to 2 years work experience.
  • Basic knowledge of DCS and PLC equipment and software.
  • Ability to communicate effectively while demonstrating strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with process modelling and predictive control techniques desired.
  • Experience in the chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment is a plus.
  • Process engineering aptitude.
  • Automation systems knowledge is desired.
  • SAP/R3 knowledge preferred.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
