This position is responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise to an assigned area of the site. In addition, the individual will collaborate with Production and Maintenance personnel to provide services related to design review, repair, and maintenance, including predictive/preventative maintenance activities. Mechanical Maintenance Engineer I/III (1703864) – Geismar, LA The successful candidate in this role provides technical support to Root Cause Failure Analyses, troubleshooting of problems, and monitoring PM and PdM programs.   • Provide technical support to the Maintenance Supervisor, specialists, and craftsmen on challenging equipment repair issues.
  • Maintain troubleshooting support and present recommendations to operating units on equipment reliability, including emergency work reviews.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis and execute corrective actions for complex and/or repetitive problems.
  • Engage in the “Bad Actor” program and create action plans for improving reliability.
  • Assist in the training and development of in-house maintenance resources.
  • Support reliability processes to drive improvements, optimize costs, and improve asset effectiveness (e.g., Bad Actor Management, FMEA, RBI, RBM, RCM, Reliability Roadmap).
  • Establish, monitor, and optimize Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) plans.
  • Provide input for the Maintenance Budget.
  • Evaluate new technologies and alternatives for equipment repair while seeking cost and delivery advantages.
  • Support capital projects by supplying engineering expertise in the specification, design, and construction of projects in accordance with plant design requirements, BASF standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in chemical/ petrochemical maintenance, reliability, and/or projects.
  • Broad-based, hands-on knowledge and experience with a variety of mechanical equipment, combined with an understanding of maintenance and reliability work processes.
  • Familiarity with equipment troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Experience with maintenance activities associated with process equipment such as centrifugal pumps, piping systems, pressure vessels (including heat exchangers), atmospheric storage tanks, positive displacement pumps, relief devices, and compressors of various design is a plus.
  • An effective communicator capable of effectively relaying facts and figures, along with the ability to influence, persuade, and negotiate.
  • Knowledge of API and ASME codes, vibration analysis, and equipment lubrication programs; SAP is a plus.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
