Where the Chemistry Happens… The Site Controller for the MidGA sites (McIntyre, Sandersville, Toomsboro) contributes to the development of the site, as well as to the accounting and finance community. They are highly-motivated and trusted professionals who are the first point-of-contact for accounting and financial guidance to leadership teams at BASF’s manufacturing locations. They ensure transparency for decision-making for the Site Leadership Team to execute decisions impacting the site. They are trusted advisors capable of providing financial and accounting guidance and solutions, as well as capable of translating the operational activities at the site into financial results. When appropriate, Site Controllers are comfortable challenging colleagues in various areas. On a regular basis, they educate local management regarding spending, take the lead in local audits, ensure compliance with site financial and asset controls, direct the site’s operating plan and forecast, and provide core accounting solutions spanning monthly reporting to fixed overhead rate development. The Site Controller leads the process by which the site determines its financial contribution through transparency of cost and opportunity. In doing so, they ensure that the site operates with clear visibility of its cost structures and strategies; supports efforts to drive simplicity and reduce complexity at the site; and are responsible for ensuring appropriate reporting and financial controls associate with the site assets. In their governance role, they ensure internal and external financial policy and procedures are followed. In their leadership and people development role, they are actively involved in attracting, retaining, and developing members of their team. Site Controller - MidGA (1704046) – McIntyre, GA Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Serve as a key member of the Site leadership team; provide strategic financial counsel and support to the Site Manager/Director.
  • Lead in the management and development of the accounting staff to maximize productivity/efficiency and to ensure clarity in accountabilities and expectations among personnel.
  • Interpret, direct, and ensure compliance with Corporate Accounting Policies and procedures. Ensure that adequate internal controls are maintained so that inventories, M&E, and other company assets are protected during all phases of plant operations.
  • Direct the preparation of the site’s Operating Plan/Forecast and assures accuracy and reasonableness of all forward-looking data used for business group projections. Ensure the annual rate development process supports the annual spending plan.
  • Responsible for all general and cost accounting, which includes systems and procedures to insure the accurate and timely financial reporting of site performance.
  • Provide support to site management to ensure the availability of data for analysis and reporting.
  • Through coaching and multiple forms of communication, ensure that site personnel possess sufficient financial knowledge to understand the P/L implications of activities occurring in their area of responsibility.
  • Champion new ideas and foster a team environment.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline strongly preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience with relevant accounting understanding and/or audit within site, business, or functional units.
  • Knowledge of Mining/Mineral extraction operations: Understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, accounting and financial topics related to Mining
  • Demonstrated learning agility to apply technical knowledge to facilitate effective decision-making in either a static or changing environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly, coupled with the ability to adjust to new standards or technologies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply BASF policies and procedures, IFRS, as well as internal control techniques.
  • Ability to interpret and understand the site business/operational environment and align such for the delivery of appropriate accounting/finance solutions and/or financial information.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities. Experience in using multiple methods and resources to identify risks and solve complex problems with effective solutions.
  • Ability to interpret, communicate, and apply company policy in a multi-Business Unit (BU) site environment.
  • Knowledge of Management accounting and inventory control methods and Systems (e.g., COBALT, MARIS, COBUS, OCEAN).
  • Demonstrated relationship management, team development, and organizational agility. Experience and/or ability in developing, directing, and motivating individuals, as well as teams, to ensure individual and team development and empowerment. Ability to create a climate in which people can do their best. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and management to include oral and written presentations
  • Concise communication and effective-influencing approaches. Experience and/or noted ability to negotiate skillfully across groups
  • Ability to communicate concise information that is relevant to the audience.
  • Ability to adjust message to setting and needs.
  • Action-oriented with focus on setting priorities coupled with the ability to adapt to changes in the environment. Flexible approach with confidence to work independently or collaboratively dependent on circumstances.
