Where the Chemistry Happens… The Site Controller for Kankakee contributes to the development of the site, as well as to the accounting and finance community. S/he is a highly motivated and trusted professional who is the first point of contact for accounting and financial guidance to the leadership teams at the manufacturing location. This role ensures transparency for decision-making for the Site Leadership Team to execute decisions impacting the site. The role serves as a trusted advisor capable of providing financial and accounting guidance and solutions, as well as translating the operational activities at the site into financial results. When appropriate, the Site Controller is comfortable challenging colleagues in various areas. On a regular basis, s/he educates local management regarding spending, takes the lead in local audits, ensures compliance with site financial and asset controls, directs the site’s operating plan and forecast, as well as providing core accounting solutions spanning monthly reporting to fixed overhead rate development. The Site Controller leads the process by which the site determines its financial contribution through transparency of cost and opportunity. In doing so, the role ensures the site operates with clear visibility of its cost structures and strategies; supports efforts to drive simplicity and reduce complexity at the site; and is responsible for ensuring appropriate reporting and financial controls associate with the site assets.   • Serve as a key member of the Site leadership team; provide strategic financial counsel and support (including key performance metrics) to the Site Director and Operations Manager.
  • Interpret, direct, and ensure compliance with Corporate Accounting Policies and procedures. Ensure that adequate internal controls are maintained so that inventories, M&E, and other company assets are protected during all phases of plant operations.
  • Direct the preparation of the site’s Operating Plan/Forecast and assures accuracy and reasonableness of all forward-looking data used for business group projections. Ensure that the annual rate development process supports the annual spending plan.
  • Through coaching and multiple forms of communication, ensure that site personnel possess sufficient financial knowledge to understand the P/L implications of activities occurring in their area of responsibility.
  • Responsible for all general and cost accounting, which includes systems and procedures to insure the accurate and timely financial reporting of site performance.
  • Provide support to site management to ensure the availability of data for analysis and reporting including the tracking and review of site-specific projects.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline. MBA, CPA, Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance or other related disciplines, CMA preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience with relevant accounting understanding and/or audit within site, business, or functional units.
  • Demonstrated learning agility to apply technical knowledge to facilitate effective decision-making in either a static or changing environment.
  • Ability to learn quickly, coupled with capability to adjust to new standards or technologies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures using US GAAP and/or IFRS applications.
  • Ability to interpret and understand manufacturing business and/or operation issues and formulate an appropriate financial response.
  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical abilities. Experience in using multiple methods and resources to identify risks and solve complex problems with effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of Management accounting and inventory control methods and accounting systems (SAP environment).
  • Ability to work across disciplines in a team environment, either local or virtual. Demonstrated experience in interpreting and applying.
  • Ability to gain trust and support with peers; confidence in engaging Senior Management.
  • Appropriate focus on setting priorities, coupled with the ability to adapt to changes in the environment.
