Where the Chemistry Happens… The Plastic Additives business within Performance Chemicals (EV) is the globally-recognized leader in antioxidant and light stabilization technology for thermoplastic polymers. Our technology enables plastics to be used to create lightweight, fuel-efficient cars; to design energy-efficient buildings; to protect food and crops from damaging heat and weather; and to design consumer products that enhance our quality of life. We are seeking a Senior Scientist (I/II) to join our industry-leading Plastic Additives technical team. In this role, you will run complex projects and work closely with internal colleagues and external global key account customers to develop solutions for their unmet needs. You will provide technical support to defend and support our Plastic Additives business. You will work closely with other members of the regional and global Technical team (Regional Applications Centers and Competence Centers), as well as Business team (Sales, Business Development, Product Management) to support existing and developmental product technologies. You will also be responsible for introducing new products into the marketplace. You will represent our Business Unit at technical conferences and customer sites by giving presentations and writing technical papers.   • Collaborate with Polyolefin Producers to identify unmet needs with base stabilization and develop solutions from our commercial and developmental product portfolio to address those needs.
  • Initiate, manage, and complete complex technical projects to establish and refine value propositions for our products and benchmark competition; including Design of Experiments.
  • Work with business, product management, and Launch Team to develop and execute market strategy, aligned with objectives in the polyolefin industry value chain.
  • Exchange technical and competitive information on products and customers with colleagues.
  • Educate customers and relevant parts of the plastics industry on the value of our products.
  • Travel to meet with customers, attend conferences, and internal/external meetings.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Master’s degree in Chemistry or related Science discipline with at least 5 years of professional experience, OR a Ph.D. with at least 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; initiative and creativity.
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with different time horizons (short- to mid-; mid- to longer-term).
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to take complicated technical subjects and make it understandable to all audiences. Must enjoy working with and talking to customers.
  • Solid knowledge of the plastics value chain, including all types of polyolefin-based products, as well as their manufacturing processes.
  • Fundamental understanding of plastics applications and processing techniques, including extrusion, compounding, films, all types of moldings, profiles, and fibers.
  • Understanding of polymer testing methods, including mechanical and analytical testing.
  • Strong knowledge in polymer additives and polyolefin applications preferred.
  • Established track record of product or application development projects is a plus.
  • Experience with Phase/Gate type product development methodologies.
  • Clear understanding of basic business metrics (e.g., EBIT, profitability).
