The Learning & Development Specialist is responsible for finding and bringing into BASF new and innovative industry best practices, connecting with other experts outside of BASF and nurturing relationships in the areas of Learning and Development for the Huntsville Site.   • Develop point of view on individuals in the HSV talent pool through assessment, observation and understanding of critical skills.
  • Help shape training and development using metrics and data, in partnership with Data Management support and HR Analytics team.
  • Manage and develop overall architecture for BASF Huntsville Training System
  • Coordinate and manage logistics before, during and after Learning and Development events
  • Cultivate a strong network in order to ensure that best in class and innovative solutions are continuously integrated into our training system and development solutions.

This position is responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Assess training needs, translate job requirements into training requirements, plan and coordinate personnel training, and organize / develop instructional material. Also, develop tracking tool on which courses have been completed by each employee.
  • Develop an approach for assessing skills learnt and refresher courses. Assess training results. Must be able to identify issues and problem solve.
  • Organize and develop, or obtain, training procedure manuals and guides and course materials such as handouts and visual materials.
  • Able to develop a model for a successful progression plan for all operators and technicians. This will be a model for mastery of each skill area where employees have the opportunity to become subject matter experts and/or qualify them to be unit trainers and/or promoted to higher levels.
  • Offer specific training programs to help workers maintain or improve job skills.
  • Monitor, evaluate and record training activities to enhance training efficiency.
  • Anticipate and assess potential learning needs; propose adequate training in order to maximize employees full potential.
  • Develop training that will help the Huntsville Site meet its strategic goals.
  • Schedule classes based on availability of classrooms, equipment, and instructors.
  • Oversee management of the Innovation Center and become part of the team to organize site/facility tours.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required combined with a minimum of 3 years of professional work experience or applicable military experience in the Learning & Development arena.
  • Experience in gathering critical information from multiple sources, synthesizing data and compiling into a report for analysis
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with all levels from front-line to executive
  • At least 2 years’ solid experience assessing training needs, translating job requirements into training requirements, planning and coordinating personnel training, and organizing / developing instructional materials.
  • Ability to assess training results. Must be able to identify issues and problem solve.
  • At least 2 years’ prior experience in developing, organizing and conducting adult training.
  • Strong proficiency in active listening, clear communication, training, coaching, and developing.
  • Demonstrated experience of leadership-through influence is required; previous experience in a supervisory role of a successful team is desirable. Strong leadership, teamwork attitude, and technical skills to establish a high-performance team and culture.
  • Presentation skills suitable to all types of training (one-on-one coaching, in-the-field training, casual small group training, and formal stand-up instruction).
  • Proven track record of collaboration across multiple areas in HR and with the business

The following are Preferred:

  • Demonstrated Project Management Skills
  • Expert in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to supervise and influence operational/administrative resources – assign work, assist with prioritization, coach and provide feedback
